HOW TO CALCULATE THE FACTORS OF A NUMBER

Factors are all those numbers that can divide another number without leaving a remainder. For example, the factors of 10 are  1, 2, 5 and 10. These numbers can divide 10 without a remainder.

To calculate the factors of a number, we can use two methods. The division method, which consists of dividing the host number by all the possible divisors.

The second method is the factor method, which consist of factorising or simplifying the host number by the smallest divisors.

Example:

Calculate the factors of 20 and write them down.

Solution: the small number that can divide 20 without a remainder is 1and 2 so,

20/1= 20

20/2 =10

10/2 = 5

what is the next smallest number that can divide 20 without a remainder, surely 5

20/5= 4

10/5= 2

5/5= 1

The next thing is to arrange from down to up. The factors of 20 are; 1, 2, 4, 5, 10 and 20
